Everybody can witness the change of the guard in culture and fashion. Generation Z creators are seen to be pushing the conversation forward in every way that could be considered audacious and awe-inspiring. On TikTok in Hadassah Tirosh’s videos, the 19-year old model often will greet you with a simple “shalom”. Starting from there, one should get ready to go down the hole since Tirosh will take you along any number of conversational paths depending on her mood that day. The video could be a thoughtful treatise on gender and sexuality, a dazzling makeup tutorial, or just playful clips of her hanging out with her friends in Mexico City (Source: Vogue). It could also be Tirosh twirling in her latest bought outfit – the common denominator in her wardrobe being sleek silhouettes and also bold pops of color – or a discussion of the elements of her wardrobe that later serves as expressing her Jewish identity, from her star of David necklace to a vast selection of colorful kippahs she has taken to wearing under her beret.
Tirosh explains that in Mexico, the Jewish community is very small if it is compared to the Catholic one. They don’t know much about her religion i.e. Jewism and its related traditions and so on TikTok she loves to teach the community a little about it. And for this, her personal and distinctive style ends up a prove to be a surprisingly effective tool that amplifies her message. While Tirosh herself describes her style as to be wacky and quirky.
Tirosh’s TikTok audience has now reached 2.6 million that are her followers, and alongside it, her nascent modeling career is firmly taking off too. She was born in Puebla, and at the age of three she moved to Israel for her parents’ work, and here she lived for around five years before her return to the coastal region of Veracruz. And, it was right here that she was first approached by a photographer for a shoot that he was planning to post to Vogue Italia’s PhotoVogue talent discovery platform (Source: Vogue). This in turn drew a result in her being signed to an agency in Mexico City. It was around this time when she came out as non-binary and pansexual settling on the name Hadassah for its sentimental value.
It is explained by Tirosh that her videos are not merely about representation, but they also have the means of developing a dialogue with her fans, many of who relate to her struggles and has been through the same before settling in their own identities. “I have received a lot of criticism from people who do not agree with who I am and what I represent, but seeing how the amount of people who defended me, feel identified and send me love, is what makes me feel safe every time,” says Tirosh (Source: Vogue). It is the sense of freedom that comes as a definition for not just the charismatic charm of Tirosh on TikTok, but also her presence right in front of the camera. She considers her modeling platform as a place where she can fully express herself as a non-binary person. According to her, she has been able to play with her masculine and feminine aspects like magic (Source: Vogue).
We consider this as an ambitious task, but Tirosh is ready for taking in this challenge. Recently, she has signed with a new agency and is looking forward to keeping up with the momentum of her fashion career. Also, it is to be noted that she has plans to begin her studies in psychology later this year while aiming to help queer youth with their mental health.
