Introduction
I never thought I’d see the day when a musical artist would trump all other musical artists in terms of style, but Dua Lipa just did it. She’s not one to shy away from the biggest trends of the moment and there’s no doubt about it, she’s been nailing it. Last night, she attended the NME Awards in London, where she took home Best British Female Solo Artist, and I’m pretty sure she may have just won best-dressed celebrity with her super-literary look, too. Though the dress itself was relatively simple (especially compared to some other styles on display), what stood out was how much effort went into making sure that every single stitch was perfectly matched and placed as well as how good these two were at following directions.
The Singer is not one to shy
Dua Lipa is a stylist’s dream. She has an eye for detail and she knows how to take risks with her style, but in a good way. She isn’t afraid to try anything new, whether it be a bold floral dress or an oversized sweater with no sleeves (both of which you can see here).
The singer doesn’t just look great she always looks amazing! That’s the secret behind her beauty: she gets what works for her body type and uses those things as inspiration for her outfits. And if you don’t have time for all that research yourself? Just ask Dua Lipa about what looks best on your skin tone!
Her latest look is no Exception
Dua Lipa is a risk-taker when it comes to her style, and she has a very good sense of what works for her. Her latest look is no exception: the singer’s braids are long enough to pull off in public, but not so long that they get in the way and they’re just as stylish as ever.
Dua Lipa’s braids are perfect for days when you want to wear something more casual than your usual outfit (or if you’re going out with friends on a Friday night), but still don’t want anything too crazy or overdone. They’ll also work well under any hat or headband if you plan on making an appearance at some sort of event where there might be photographs taken with other people nearby!

The NME Awards in London
Last night, Dua Lipa attended the NME Awards in London, where she took home Best British Female Solo Artist. She was also wearing a Burberry dress with embroidered quotes from The Bell Jar (which you can read more about here).
The quote on her dress reads “I’m only 13 and it’s already so hard to be me,” which is from Sylvia Plath’s famous poem about depression and isolation.
This was not just any quote or design it was an exact copy of one that appeared on the cover of The Bell Jar itself!
The embroidered quote detailing near the neckline.
The dress itself was relatively simple, but it’s the quote around the neckline that makes this piece so special. Though the embroidery is minimal and subtle, it adds just enough pizzazz to make this look stand out.
The Special Quote
The quote reads “You are not your own” a sentiment echoed by many women in today’s society who feel like they’re not worthy of their bodies or lives because they don’t fit into some idealized version of femininity. It’s a powerful message from one of our greatest literary figures: Sylvia Plath herself!
This quote is from Sylvia Plath’s novel The Bell Jar. In the book, Esther Greenwood spends her days in a bathtub and falls into despair when she realizes that there are plenty of things that could cure her mental illness but that she doesn’t know how to find them.
The dress designer chose this quote because it’s very true: not everyone can find inner peace through hot baths alone they may need other methods as well!
The quote is from Sylvia Plath’s 1955 semi-autobiographical novel The Bell Jar. It’s a metaphor for mental illness and suggests that, even when you’re in the midst of it all, it’s still possible to find beauty and wonder in the world around you.
But what makes this quote so fitting for Dua Lipa? Well it could be because she chose to have it stitched into her look at some point during Fashion Week (we’ll let you decide whether or not that’s her thing) but either way, if anyone deserves an award for choosing such an evocative quote for their outfit it would be Dua Lipa!
The book was published in 1955 and set in New York City. It follows Esther Greenwood, who struggles with depression as she tries to find herself after being institutionalized for three years due to mental illness. Her struggle with writing poetry is so severe she gives up on it completely which makes me wonder if this look wasn’t inspired by one of Plath’s poems!
Conclusion
Dua Lipa knows what she wants, and she’s not afraid to go after it. She’s not one to shy away from the biggest trends of the moment and there’s no doubt about it, she’s been nailing it. From her fierce red hair to her bold blue nails and cobalt-colored eyeshadow, Dua Lipa has been a trendsetter since day one as an artist. And now that we’ve seen her take home two awards at this year’s NME Awards (including Best British Female Solo Artist), we can all agree that this is just another example of why people love her so much: because she doesn’t care what anyone thinks, she does whatever makes her happy and who knows maybe next time we’ll see a different dress on the stage?
