Introduction
London Fashion Week has always been a major event for the fashion industry, but it’s now getting even bigger. The Spring 2023 shows are being streamed live on YouTube, which means that you can watch them wherever you happen to be even if you don’t have cable access. This is great news for anyone who wants to know what their favorite designers have coming out next season and why they’re so excited about it before anyone else does. Here are some of our favorite moments from this year’s show:
The Batsheva Spring/Summer 2023 Show
This spring/summer 2023 show was a tribute to the late designer Rei Kawakubo, who passed away in 2018. The collection featured red wigs worn by models and a performance from singer Solange. The first half of the show featured mostly women of color the second half featured mostly white models and it was held at the Tate Modern (which is one of my favorite places).
The show was also super fun I loved the music and performances, which included a Japanese band playing in front of a screen that showed images of Kawakubo (the designer) with her models. The clothes were also great there were lots of big coats, which I always love, and some cool hats.
Kawakubo’s influence on fashion is undeniable: She was one of the first designers to incorporate avant garde designs into mainstream fashion and inspired many other designers, including Phoebe Philo (who is also a big influence). Kawakubo will be missed but her legacy lives on through her brilliant designs.
The JW Anderson Spring/Summer 2023 Show
The JW Anderson spring/summer 2023 show was a tribute to the late designer Alexander McQueen, who died in 2010. The show took place at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, England, and included models wearing his designs from his first collection.
The runway was walked by pairs of models as they made their way down the catwalk slowly with one person walking ahead of another then reversing roles until there were ten pairs in total making up this sequence throughout each hour long run through various locations within the museum complex including galleries dedicated exclusively towards displaying each individual’s work from other designers such as Chloe Sevigny or Sophie Hulme whom both wore pieces designed by JW Anderson himself back when he was still alive!
The Maryam Nassir Zadeh Spring/Summer 2023 Show
The Maryam Nassir Zadeh spring/summer 2023 show was an ode to her Iranian heritage. The collection was inspired by a traditional Persian carpet, and the models’ hair was styled in chignons decorated with flowers.
The clothes had a very airy, light feel to them. Silk chiffon was used in many of the looks, and the color palette leaned toward pastels like pinks, blues, and yellows.
The collection started with a series of pantsuits, including one in white silk chiffon with a black and silver belt that had a rhinestone buckle. There were also some cool jumpsuits with tiered hems and ruffled sleeves.
The Ahluwalia Spring/Summer 2023 Show
The models wore kurtas with bright colors, some embellished with gold. The kurtas were made from silk and it was obvious that they had been carefully crafted by hand.
The show featured a range of looks, from the traditional to the contemporary. The collection included flowing pantsuits, chunky sweaters, and elegant dresses with bell sleeves that were clear that the man was a tailor. He could make any style of clothing, but he had a particular affinity for kurtas. The man told us that he had been making them since he was a child, and his father before him as well.
The collection started with a group of models wearing transparent skirts, which were accompanied by long sleeved tops. The tops featured intricate embroidery and intricate gold beading around the neckline He had been making kurtas for the last forty years, and he was still going strong. The man told us that he started making clothing when he was a teenager. He learned how to sew from his father, who was also a tailor.
The Emilia Wickstead Spring/Summer 2023 Show
Emilia Wickstead is a British designer who has been making clothes for more than 15 years. And she’s never stopped innovating her latest collection at London Fashion Week Spring 2023 was no exception.
Wickstead has an impressive history of creating beautiful, luxurious pieces that are instantly recognizable as hers. Her loyal following of customers love her for her use of bold colors and prints, as well as their ability to pair luxury fabrics with bold patterns in ways that make them feel both modern and classic at once.
Wickstead’s latest collection was no exception. The designer used vibrant colors and prints in her designs, as well as luxurious fabrics that were paired together in ways that felt modern but also classic at once.
Fashion week is moving to a new era in which watching the shows virtually isn’t as big of a setback as it might have once seemed.
It’s not just that you can watch it virtually on your phone, or even better: It’s that fashion week is getting better at its job thanks to technology.
When I was a fashion editor at Bazaar, we used to have a big team of interns and assistants who would sit in front of computers all day long, researching looks from shows that had been photographed. They’d then write up short notes about what they saw, as well as some extra information like the designer’s bio or whatever else came up on their Google searches.
Conclusion
If you’re in the industry, these shows are a great opportunity to see how you can apply your knowledge and skills to the next level. Whether you’re a student or an experienced designer, there is something for everyone at this year’s fashion week. We hope that this blog post has helped you learn more about what we saw from some of the biggest designers on the planet during their spring 2023 London Fashion Week shows!
